It’s a mistake to bring a large team and lots of materials. A successful pitch is a time when we develop confidence in the person presenting.
I am interested in preparation and thoughts, but I want to believe that the person can deliver. Bringing a lot of materials comes across as a lack of confidence in him/herself.
I want to meet a senior person. I also want to know that this person is going to give us significant attention. This person can’t simply be selling a firm and team to us.
Helping us understand that the person has relevant experience is meaningful. References sometimes help, but their value is limited.
